Zirconia has fascinating properties that have
already made it the material of choice for a
very diverse range of application in industry,
but also in the medical field – for example
for artificial hip joints. For example, if a
crack develops, this material responds with
a micro-structural transformation of its
crystalline structure, resulting in a strong
level of resistance to further propagation of
the crack – this is called the crack closure
effect. In addition, zirconia is the only highstrength structural ceramic material that is
strong enough to reliably withstand masticatory
forces of 800 – 900 N that regularly occur in the posterior region. This means that thanks to Cercon, all-ceramic restoration can now become one of the standard treatment adjuncts you offer.
